I have been studied three years in Furness High School and I learned a lot from this school. I contributed many things to Furness through participating in different types of clubs and organizations. I signed up for the Build On membership when I was in 9th grade. Build On was a youth service programs engaged students in challenging urban areas and helped to establish a better community or school community. Build On gave me great chances to volunteer in the school or outside of the school. I had enjoyed in those Build On projects. Since I was in 10th grade, I participated in school girl badminton team. Even I wasn’t really good at badminton, I still tried my best to play with it. Finally, I got a chance to play the Double and won the game with my partner. In that time, I felt I was a successful badminton player because I gained a good reputation for the school. I also participated in the school newspaper club when I was in 11th grade. I played a columnist role in the school newspaper and I wrote about school clubs activities in the school newspaper.

Congratulations on badminton! Your commitment to Build On is obvious. I'm sure your senior year will provide many more opportunities to volunteer.

One of my legacies is community service. For the past three years at Furness High School, I have participated in countless community service projects through Build On after school on half days, on the weekends, and on the holidays. Some of the more memorable community projects took place at Atlantic City Beach where we cleaned up the area by removing unsightly and hazardous trash. Another service project entailed wrapping gifts for children on Christmas Day. The project that I enjoy the most is the Donor Dash, where I passed out water to the runners. I have participated in this event for the past three years.

I'm glad you have many happy memories from community service activities. I hope you're able to find another organization to work with at Temple. Your suggestions for Freshman are very "Thuy" - they are funny and very instructive! I will share them with Freshmen next year!

I'm a Junior at Furness H.S. I'm in Furness about three years. I started playing in girls' badminton team when I was a freshman. Leading school‘s girls' badminton team to those competitions, I gave the contribution to build the reputation of our school. I know that might not help much, but I think I gave my best. I did community services in my Freshman and Sophomore year in an organization called Build On, and by using the name of Furness since I'm a student at Furness. I think it is a pretty cool school even though it does not attract students from outside that much like those top schools do.

Your coverage of the badminton team was great! I'm sure you have given your best. I also appreciate your advice to new students. School should be about "learning and growing!"

I have been studying at Furness High School for three years. I contributed to Furness High School through participating in Build On, Newspaper Club, and the National Honor Society. In Build On, we did many community services, such as planning trees, wrapping gifts for children during Christmas, and making breakfast for the patient’s family by using the name Furness. We also raise money to build schools in Africa to help those that weren’t able to have a chance to be educated like us. In the Newspaper Club, which is Furness Falcon we write news that we think are important for students to know, such as the PSSA, Gear Up, Build On, and different clubs that students can participate with. Then, we sell the newspaper to raise school funding. In the National Honor Society, we raise money by selling candies.

You've done a lot in your 3 years at Furness and you still have another year! I'm glad your experience with community service and the Furness Falcon have been meaningful. You also encourage other students to get involved in areas where they have talent!

As a Furness student for three years, I am not very active, so that I only contributed few things to school such as Community Service and newspaper. I have done many hours of community service during my school time. Such as, at Christmas, I participated in another program called Operation Santa Claus. This particular program ensures that needy children in the Philadelphia area receive gifts for the holidays. Also, I have participated in school newspaper this year. I wrote some events and took picture for the newspaper.

You've done a lot in 3 years! You certainly contributed important articles and photos to the Furness Falcon. Regarding your advice for Freshmen, I agree that organization and time management are important. Both are also important for adults!

This has been my forth and last year in Furness highschool. In my freshman and sophmore years i helped build the reputation of our school by participating in the Build On organization which i have had many experiences from. It was a lot of fun and it gives students a chance to meet and communicate with new people from different places. Furness has been one of only a few schools that had worked with the oragniztation and It's really nice that people from outside would know that we are students from Furness the Great. In my junior and senior year i didnt have a chance to volenteer in build on again nor participate in a sport, but for me there is enough students that would still help build funess and and bring it's reputation even higher.

It is great that Build On selected Furness and so many Furness students responded! Your advice to 9th graders is also important - to not judge based on appearance and to build healthy friendships. You exhibit your last piece of advice - you always are ready to smile!

Studying at Furness for 3 years, I have contributed a lot. First of all, I am a member of the Build On Organization. It creates opportunities for students to do things for people who live under impoverished condition internationally, so that their lives can be improved. I have been participating in community service for many hours since I am a freshman. I helped with the school and the community to get things done. I was volunteering in the school blood drive lately. Secondly, I am also a member of the Furness Falcon. I am a news reporter. I wrote news about events that happened around the world and events in school. I also wrote interview report from the student teachers. Thirdly, I sold candies to raise money for the National Honor Society as a member. Finally, I did my best on the PSSA test which might influence the fate of the school.

Thank you for your articles for the Furness Falcon. A paper should provide many points of views. I also appreciate your advice for 9th graders. It is important to do your best and not be satisfied with "just getting by."

The Legacy I want to leave behind at Furness is that I was one of the first five girls to go to a cheerleading competition and was able to place 4th. I have been a part of the cheerleading squad since I was a freshman and over the last four years, was able to work my way up to Captain. I also want to be remembered for my full scholarship to Dickinson College and being a Dell scholarship recipient; which is a 20,000 dollar scholarship. I also want my legacy to be remembered as being in the first play put on by Furness at the Philadelphia Theater company. I was able to help pave a path and create a new experience for students. We did such an awesome job that they asked our school to come back in future years.

Congratulations on your scholarships! College look for more than grades and your many activities contributed to your success. I also agree finding a good group of friends is important. I certainly learned that in high school.

One of my legacies for Furness High School is helping out the teachers with the Multicultural Fair. I participated in the multicultural Fair for three years. I was in charge of my table. And I also helped them cleaned up after multicultural fair was over. I used to wash all the spoons and dishes that needed to clean. But this year I can’t participate but I still helped them collect money from teachers and signed up my other friends for our table. I might help Mrs. Bahvnani help practice dance with the Nepalese.

Thank you for your dedication to the Multicultural Fair - it is an important end of the year event for Furness. I also like your advice to 9th graders - "don't be scared, nervous and worried." While difficult to not worry, it is good to put 9th grade into the bigger picture of life and take it a day at a time.

I actually had a slow start at Furness. When I first came in the 10th grade, I kept to myself because I was not familiar with anybody's character. As time went on, I broke out of my own box and expanded my personality by befriending a variety of individuals. That was most beneficial to me. I like that I was able to make people laugh and influence them to remain optimistic.

You certainly came out of your "shell!" You have many friends and it is obvious that they appreciate your friendship. I hope you have the same experience at Millersville Univ.

In my two years at Furness, I feel that I contributed miniaml, but large things. Most of my contributions are athletic, and they consist of being the All-Time leading reciever in schools history. I finihed 3rd on the all-time on the basketball scoring list, and I am the first Division I basketball player in the schools history. I think I would be most remembered as a class clown, who did get good grades.
Ms. Sharer

You obviously are committed to athletics and clowning around... So, is your advice indicating that a student determines how much they get out of a school academically versus the teachers?

Horace Howard Furness is my home. All of my greatest memories have been contributed from this school. I know that this school might not be the highest performing school but i have learned morals that will take me further than any Central class lesson. i feel that my legacy here at furness i would be showing how people can change and develop.
Ms. Sharer

I'm glad Furness became a positive experience. You have contributed a lot to Furness and been willing to "change and develop." I'm glad you had classes that went beyond "the curriculum" which is often narrow and limiting. I also appreciate your advice to be open to "getting the full experience."

The Legacy that I will leave at this school will be that I had alot of friends that gave me support when I felt like giving up and I learned alot of things about the world and facts from all my AP classes that will last with me forever and the language that I learned and I can speak with alot of my friends and that makes me think that it was all worth it. The second legacy is that I left a impression some are better than others that my teachers think that I'm a responsible person even though lazy and forgetful they urge us on to pass. The message that I will pass on is that even though it looks as though your trapped in here forever it isn't that long and that the teachers really do care just give them a chance they just want us to succeed and they want to inspire the answers out of us to make us better in life.
Ms. Sharer

I'm glad you were able to make a lot of friends and felt pushed to be more responsible. Organization is important! I will pass on your advice to not feel "trapped" and recognize that teachers do want students to be successful!

My legacies at Furness high school was everything. I came to this school as a shy girl that kept to myself until I was introduce to a group of senior that made me to be well known in this school. My academic also made me look good at Furness but making friends with senior and being a freshmen was a hug thing for all freshmen but I was the lucky one to be friends with them within two months of school and dated one couple months later. I honestly can say that my ninth grade year is my best year here at Furness. Everyone was friend and not enemy and so many nice people was around but now they are all gone. After ninth grade year things changed, people change but the friends I was truly close with is still around till this time of year, May 2012, less then a month away from graduating. CLIMAX was the moment for many senior at prom when we all came together jamming to that song, its a memory to me. I have contributed a lot to Furness High School. I continue the Gift of Life group even after the crisis in 2009 and my school pride as a cheerleader since 2008. Even after being rejected going against one of my good friend I maintain my spirit and made it to the official team but nothing wasn't official until this year because Ladies Falcons went on to competition for the first time and show pride in our school. I participated in many event and sport here at Furness high and give full effort 100%.

You did become the "Gift of Life" student to go to! I'm glad you were able to find your place in 9th grade and continued your involvement in many activities. I also agree your reputation is made in 9th grade and it is important to establish positive friendships from the start!

I have been come to study in Furness High School for two years and i had join community service program, "Build On" in my junior year. I had volunteer in this community with many activities, which helping communities to become a better place for people to live. One of my favorites particular project that i had volunteer in this program, was helping wrap the christmas gifts for the kids that they wished to get on the Christmas Day. I also had participate in multicultural fair in my junior year and this year i couldn't participate, but i helped collect the money from all the teachers for this event.

Just as Build On helped you get involved at Furness, your contributions to Build On are important! You've done a lot in a few years! I also appreciate your advice for 9th graders - meeting deadlines for assignments is a way to get organized.

I actually did not get to spend four year at Furness High School, but during my junior and senior year I have contributed many things both in academic area and other school clubs. I came here knowing nothing about a new country, I still remembered my first day here in which I was so nervous and did not know anything about the process of studying here. However, Furness High School is a welcoming school, when I step my foot in there were many people asking me if I need help. People in school such as securities, teachers and other staff are very welcoming and helpful. Being new to the school, I tried my best to fit in and I actually did it. Since last year I have participated in a program which is called Build On. It is an organization that allow students to come and do community services. Not only that I could help my community through the program, it also benefited me by helping to meet new friends, knowing more people and getting more help to get adapted to school. I also have been helping some teachers when they need help. Then continuing to my senior year, I have participate in Furness Falcon which is a school news paper. I have helped to publish many school newspaper as well as selling them. More than that, I was thrilled of being selected and becoming a candidate of National Honor Society. I was proud of myself that I can make myself to be one of the outstanding students. In the NHS, I have helped raising the money by selling candies. Overall, getting ready to graduate, I have been feeling that for just two years, I have done many things for Furness.

You've accomplished a lot in two years and should be proud of all of your accomplishments, including induction into the National Honor Society! I'm glad you found people at Furness helpful. Comments are closed.
