Post on the class blog Select ONE of the following:
(1) Write a letter to the head of a federal government agency or department whose funding you will cut and explain why you have cut the funding. Include a salutation (Dear…..), a paragraph on what you will cut, a paragraph on your explanation / rationale. (Up to 5 points each for content, explanation/ rationale, and style (grammar, phrasing, tone, etc.) – total of 15 points.) OR (2) Write a press release to be read by the President’s press secretary, describing the reasons you are giving more funding to particular programs. Include a heading regarding the topic of the press release and a paragraph on what you will fund and a paragraph with your explanation /rationale. (Up to 5 points each for content, explanation/ rationale, and style (grammar, phrasing, tone, etc.) – total of 15 points.) (1) Write a response to the House Budget proposal. Your response should summarize the main components of the budget proposal and at least 3 -4 items you agree/disagree with and why. (Post on blog by 4/20 before class).

What are the tradeoffs you foresee in diminishing some programs while protecting or enriching others? (5 pts) What might be some of the political “fallout” of your decisions? How might you address this “fallout”? (5 pts) D. Were there any arguments made by your classmates during the budgeting workshop that surprised you? Why? (5 pts) |
